CREATION
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.
God made light on the first day. The spectrum of light is spanned in the glass from opaque black glass that lets no light through all the way to the orange and yellow of the sun. The sky and firmament is portrayed in the window. That was day two. On day three you see the dry ground and water and vegetation. There are mountains and a stream and still water in the depiction. There are cacti in the lower right hand (no thorns, remember that this is before the fall into sin and the curse of thorns and stickers!). The sun, moon and stars of day four are there.
The fish and fowl of day five are present. It says the water teemed with fish. Four different kinds of fish are portrayed with a turtle on a rock. There are three quail and a rooster crowing to symbolize the birds. Day six was first about animals: rabbits, coyotes, donkeys, sheep, a longhorn, an ibex, elephant, giraffe. And the snake is there with its forked tongue. That is symbolic too of things to come. Last on day six come the Man and the Woman, the crown of God’s creation.
The river coming down into the garden is referenced in Genesis 2:10: “A river watering the garden flowed from Eden….” The trees of the garden are off in the distance and are in rows. God is a God of order. Wouldn’t he have planted the trees in the first garden in rows?
It was all to God’s glory. It was beautiful and wonderful. Even after sin it still is.
