GEOGRAPHY & SPELLING BEE, MATH MEET
Throughout the year, students are given the opportunity to challenge themselves with competitions in geography, spelling, and math. In January, students in grades 5-8 can compete for a place in our annual Geography Bee. This is held in the Worship Center near the end of a school day. The winner has the opportunity to participate in a State, and possibly National competition.
We also have students take an online spelling test each February with the top students from each class being chosen to compete in our Panther Spelling Bee. This is also held in church during the school day as we wind our way down to our top three contestants and ultimate spelling champion. Students who participate in the school spelling bee are also given the opportunity to take part in the annual Twin Cities spelling bee held at St. Croix Lutheran High School each March.
Our school also participates in a program called Meet Math, which is run through Martin Luther College. During the course of the year all students in grades 5-8 take four written tests as they compete against other Lutheran schools like ours throughout the country. Top math students in seventh and eighth grade can also participate in the Math Bowl held each year at St. Croix Lutheran High School.
TRUNK OR TREAT
The free community event features, decorated vehicle trunks with games, prizes and candy, a bouncy house, small bonfire with treats, and a live Christian band – The SON Experience!
SUGARLAND
Enjoy the sites and sounds of Christmas in Sugarland! This community event is fun for families of all ages to engage in a facility full of sugary characters, crafts, games, activities and treats centered on the Greatest Gift of Jesus!
EASTER EGGSTRAVAGANZA
This free eggs-citing event features family activities geared for children ages 10 and younger; egg hunts, bounce house, games, crafts and treats!
KICK, PASS, SPIKE
Sponsored by St. Croix Lutheran High School as a recruitment tool, Kick, Pass, and Spike (KPS) is held during half time of the Homecoming football game. Students in grades K-8 compete against students from our area Lutheran schools as a fun bonding event. To be eligible to compete at St. Croix, each classroom holds a mini KPS competition to select one boy and one girl from each room. The event includes students kicking a soccer ball, passing a football, and spiking a volleyball as far as they can. The boy and girl that does the farthest distance is our school representative for that classroom. Students are not allowed to go to St. Croix’s event in consecutive years.
SPIRIT WEEK
At the end of the regular basketball season we have Spirit Week, where students are encouraged to come to school dressed according to whatever theme is set each day. Theme days are set by the 7th and 8th graders. The themes are posted in advance so students can plan out what they are going to wear. At the end of the week, we hold an all-school pep rally in the gym, and the week is capped off by our basketball teams playing their final home games of the season. It’s a great way for all students to show their school spirit, and it gives the students a fun break in their normal routine as we begin to reach the end of those dreary winter months.
PTO LENTEN SUPPER
As a way to thank the congregation for supporting our school, the PTO sponsors one of the Lenten dinners. All Panther families are asked to donate food items and help prep and serve the meal. A thank-you poster board circulates through the classrooms for each student to sign before the dinner. It’s displayed at the front of the serving line at the dinner.
AWARDS NIGHT
This is an evening of recognition for students in grades 4-8 who participated and/or placed in any extracurricular activities, or who excelled academically. An email will be sent out requesting donations from parents for coaches’ gifts as a way of thanking them for their service. Thank-you cards are purchased, and gift cards are given to the coaches during the program. Child care is available in the Kidz Club room. Decorations and the “Wall of Fame” enhance this festive evening. The Wall of Fame is a display on a gym wall with the name of each student keystroked on a piece of clip art that pertains to the activity that he or she participated in. Individual names/art are cut out and displayed within their activity grouping. Each activity is printed on its own color of card stock. After the program, students are invited to take their names/art off of the wall. Refreshments are donated by families and served throughout the evening.
GRADUATION NIGHT

Each year we close out our school year with a worship service as we gather around the Word and remind ourselves about the purpose of our school. During the service we take time to focus on our Kindergartners and 8th graders as they receive their diplomas. All students also sing for the service, and we wrap up our time in church with a slide show that recaps many of the events that took place during the year. It’s a great way for our families to end another year and thank the Lord for the many blessings He has provided through our school’s ministry. It is tradition that 7th grade parents coordinate and host the graduation party. Scrapbooking volunteers create a 12” x 12” custom page for each 8th grader that is displayed in the gym during the party and then given to the grads afterward. Volunteers set up and decorate the gym. Cake and punch are served.
PANTHER OLYMPICS
Panther Olympics is for students in Kindergarten through 8th grade and will be held on the morning of the last day of school. Students arrive at their regular start time of 8:30am. Weather permitting, a variety of games are set up outside with an adult stationed at each event. Each team is made up of students from multiple grade levels, encouraging all students to have fun together regardless of their age. In case of inclement weather, events are set up indoors.
SCHOOL PICNIC
The school picnic follows immediately after Panther Olympics at lunch time. Volunteers help grill hot dogs, cut up watermelon, set up and serve lunch, and clean up.
